It was Amy’s birthday last month and I wanted to organise something special. I booked us a night away at the Hilton Golf Resort and Spa in Templepatrick, Antrim. I’m a huge fan of Hilton Hotels and I’ve been a member of the Hilton Honours club for a while so I was really excited for our visit.
Our day started off as a bit of a disaster. The pipe connected to our washing machine burst and flooded our kitchen. By the time that was all resolved, we definitely felt like we deserved a bit of relaxation.
The package we got included a two-course dinner at the restaurant, a bottle of wine and breakfast the next day for £199.00.

Templepatrick is only about 20-25 minutes away from where we live, but you don’t need to go far to enjoy a staycation. The Hilton at Templepatrick is in a remote location away from all the city chaos – so you can’t hear any traffic, or any noise at all! It really makes you feel like you’re on holiday and not 20 minutes from home!
The Hilton at Templepatrick also houses an 18-hole golf course. We’re not golfers ourselves but was really-well kept and there were plenty of people playing over the course of our stay.
After washing machine-gate, we were running a bit behind on time but we made it just in time for the first check-in at 3pm. After dropping our bags in our room (more about that later!) – we went to the hotel’s Health Club, borrowed some rackets and hit the tennis courts.
Borrowing the rackets and using the courts was completely free – which I wasn’t expecting at all. In fact, we didn’t even know that our hotel had tennis courts until we got there – so it was a nice surprise and something extra to do.
As it was a super hot day – we didn’t last too long on the tennis court. Instead we decided to spend some time in the pool, jacuzzi and sauna. It was really relaxing and exactly what we needed after a long week at work. Access to the pool, sauna and jacuzzi was included in our stay too, so we didn’t have to pay a penny extra.
After our swim, it was time to go back to our room and get ready for dinner.
I think if you’re going to do a one-night staycation – you might as well do it in style, so I upgraded our room. It was a huge room with a sofa, a 32-inch TV and a great view over the golf course. The bed was really comfortable, the only problem we had was that it was SO hot. With that being said, it’s not often that we have really hot weather in Northern Ireland so I didn’t expect the hotel to be kitted out for a heatwave!
Dinner at Treffner’s Restaurant
Our two-course dinner was part of our package deal. We’re both massive foodies so we were expecting great things.
My starter was a warm chorizo, halloumi and potato salad with a poached egg. I would never really have thought about having a poached egg with salad but I was pleasantly surprised as it tasted GREAT.
We both chose the sirloin steak with pepper sauce and chips for our main course. We both agreed that it was one of the best steaks we’ve ever eaten, cooked to perfection.
After dinner, we visited the lounge bar to sample their cocktails and listen to the live music. The cocktails we got were around £7.50 each – which is about average price for cocktails but they were MASSIVE. Mine was a mango daiquiri and Amy got an Espresso Martini. What I really liked about the cocktails is that the servers weren’t stingy with the alcohol content. There’s nothing worse than a watered-down cocktails so these didn’t disappoint.
I think breakfast was the highlight of the whole stay. It was buffet style and they had literally everything you could ever want. Cooked breakfast (sausages, bacon, eggs, soda bread, potato bread, black pudding, hash browns – the whole works!), fruit, cereal, cold meats and lots of different bread options. It was very much “help yourself” apart from the eggs as you could tell the chef what way you wanted your eggs cooked – and I thought this was a really nice touch.
We ate so much at the breakfast buffet that we didn’t need to eat another thing until 8pm that evening.
We didn’t have to check out of our room until 12pm, so after breakfast we took a stroll around the grounds and checked out a bit of the golf course. The surroundings are really beautiful and it was the perfect way to round-off our stay.
The staff at the Hilton Templepatrick would have done anything for you, and they went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcome.
Overall I would definitely recommend the Hilton in Templepatrick to anyone who wants a relaxing getaway.
