The Christmas Tag

Christmas festive

Seeing as we’re getting closer to the big day, and because I didn’t take part in Blogmas this year – I thought I’d do the Christmas Tag!

The Questions

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

The Grinch – the Jim Carey one! I watch it every single year. I also love Elf.

Have you ever had a white Christmas?

I can’t remember – definitely not in recent years. Although it would be fun to be able to build a snowman on Christmas Day.

Where do you usually spend your holiday?

I go to my parent’s house every year as soon as I finish work for the holidays.

What’s your favourite Christmas song?

Fairytale of New York by The Pogues is always a winner. Janet Devlin has a really good wee festive album called Little Lights which you can get your hands on here or you can stream it on Spotify.

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

No we’re not allowed to do that in our house! All presents are opened on Christmas morning!

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Without cheating and checking Google – Dasher, Donner, Dancer, Prancer, Rudolph, Blitzen…I think that’s about half of them…oops!

What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

I’m looking forward to starting some new ones with Amy. And I’m also looking forward to playing some board games with my family, getting super competitive and then temporarily falling out with everyone! It’s always the way!

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Fake. I don’t see the point in putting a huge tree up in my flat, as I don’t spend “actual” Christmas in Belfast. I have a really tiny tree that I put on the table in my living room, just so I don’t look like a total Scrooge! In fact, here’s a photo:

What’s your favourite holiday food/treat/sweet?

In terms of the Christmas dinner food – I love sprouts (controversial!) and roasted parsnips. I’m not sure if that’s because I really love them or because they’re a once-a-year treat. My mum makes leek and potato soup every Christmas Day using my granny’s recipe and it’s to die for!

I’m also a huge fan of the amount of chocolate biscuits that find themselves in our house over the holidays!

Be honest. Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?

Both. I love giving gifts when I know I’ve got it right. Buying gifts gives me massive anxiety though – I always have the fear that the person won’t like it. Receiving is good because I’m always super grateful when someone gets me something and I’m very easily pleased!

What’s the best Christmas present you’ve ever received?

When I was younger, my parents got me a Barbie camper van and a Barbie stables. I thought they were the absolute biz and I was so happy!

What’s your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

I would love to visit New York at Christmas but Australia has been on my bucket list for a long time. I’d love to experience Christmas on the beach just once!

Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

I’m terrible at wrapping presents but I always give it my best shot. I should get points for effort.

What’s your most memorable Christmas memory?

Making Christmas dinner with my Dad a few years ago. My mum had broken her ankle so we took over cooking duties. We had yellow post-it notes all over the kitchen to make sure all the food went in the oven in time and we ended up making far too much!

What made you realise the truth about Christmas?

I presume this means the truth about Santa! I think I was starting to get suspicious when I was about 9 years old. It wasn’t a particular incident that made me suspicious, I think it just comes with age. Saying that, my parents didn’t actually sit me down and tell me until I was about 11.

What makes the holidays special for you?

To be honest – just having the time off work and being able to spend with my family for more than 2 days at a time!
